Kids petting a kangaroo
Koala Park Sanctuary, West Pennant Hills – To see koalas up close, visit the Koala Park Sanctuary. There are no crowds and lots of koalas, kangaroos and wombats to pet.
Oceanworld (Manly) – Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Oceanworld in Manly, a large aquarium filled with native marine life. The aquarium has marvelous corals and tropical fish from the Great Barrier Reef, crocodiles local to Australia, and shark tanks, with unusual sharks, such as Grey Nurse, Seven Gill, Wobbegong, Blind and Bamboo sharks. Don't miss the shark feeding times. After you've been to Oceanworld, head out to the Manly Beach for a swim.
Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park – Want to explore creeks and forests, only minutes from the city center? Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park has plenty of hiking trails, creeks and aboriginal rock engravings. Take the hike down to The Basin for a picnic and swim in the ocean. Stop in for maps and information at the Kalkari Visitor Centre or at Bobbin Head.
Kamay-Botany Bay and Royal National Parks – In 1770, the peripatetic Captain Cook landed at Botany Bay. The vegetation intrigued Captain Cook and you'll find it interesting too, especially the mangrove swamps. The Discovery Centre has exhibits about Captain Cook's voyage around the world. Picnic at Captain Cook's Landing Place.
Royal National Park – Just south of Botany Bay, Royal National Park has miles of trails through the "bushland" and along the coastline. Trails pass by gorgeous waterfalls and pools, through eucalyptus trees and typical "bush" forest. Stop off at the Visitor Centre in Audley for maps.
    Blue Mountains – Enchanting scenery!
Katoomba – The Blue Mountains Scenic Railway that takes you to the valley is a thrill – it goes straight down. For a look at some fabulous rock formations, ride on the Scenic Skyway, a gondola over the valley, or stop off at Echo Point for view of the "Three Sisters." Don't miss breathtaking Katoomba Falls.
Leura – The Toy and Railway Museum has a collection of antique teddy bears, dolls, model trains and toys. Take a picnic to Leura Cascades, then walk through the forest to two or three lovely waterfalls.
