Commons
Beach This is one of the nicest places to get down to
Lake Tahoe, with a large playground (climbing structures and swings
for little kids), lots of grass and picnic tables, a sandy beach, and super
views of the lake. |

Watson
Cabin Museum Up the way from Commons Beach, check out
this cabin, typical of life at the turn of the 20th century. Built in 1908,
the Watson family lived in the cabin year round, and it had real amenities
such as indoor plumbing, the first in Tahoe City. The house is filled with
household utensils, furniture, and period clothing. Open June - Labor Day. |

Truckee
River Rafting Everyone in the family will enjoy leisurely
rafting on the Truckee River. Pick up the rafts in the center of town, near
the bridge and dam. It takes about 2 - 4 hours to float from Tahoe City
to River Ranch Pond, about a five mile stretch. The shuttle brings you back
to Tahoe City. Life jackets and paddles are provided, but you need to have
swimwear and shoes on your feet. |

Lake
cruise May to October, ride around the lake with the paddlewheer Tahoe Gal. There's 1 ½ hours brunch cruises along the west
shore, or longer lunch and sunset cruises. Click

Rent
bikes Tahoe City is an origin point for the Tahoe Trailways
Bike Path, 15 miles of paved path along the west side of Lake Tahoe. If
you're camping along the lake, this is a great way to get to and from your
campground. Also, there's another wide path that goes right along the Truckee
River (pick up the path at the 64 Acres Park in town). There are several
shops in Tahoe City to rent bikes. |

Squaw Valley |

|
Up the road from Tahoe City, Squaw Valley is just a lovely high mountain
setting, with a river running through a glorious green meadow in summer.
In winter there's tons of skiing Squaw Valley was the site

High
Camp Year round, ride the cable car up the mountain,
2,000 ft. up for fabulous views of the valley and Lake Tahoe. In the warm
months, bring your hiking boots and enjoy a leisurely hikes the meadows,
or older kids will enjoy the longer hikes (click
here for the hiking trails from High Camp). High Camp also has
a year-round ice skating pavillion, and a swimming pool and jacuzzi (so
bring your swim suits). |

Squaw
Valley Adventure Center In summer, kids will enjoy indoor climbing
walls (even little kids can give the shorter one a try), ropes and bridges
course, and a skyjump bungee trampoline, perfect for little ones. |

Hike
up Squaw Creek From the valley, it's a lovely hike up Squaw Creek,
or head out through Shirley Canyon in the direction of Shirley Lake. In
summer the streams have lots of boulders for scrambling around, this is
a good hike for older kids. Spend your afternoon just exploring the creek. |

Valley Stables In the warmer months, take a guided one or
two hour trail ride, for kids 7 and up. For kids 6 and under, there are
short pony rides. |

Beach State Recreation Area King Beach has great access to the
lake, a playground with climbing structures, picnic tables, and sand
beach. |

Beach Miniature Golf Everyone in the family will enjoy two 19
hole miniature golf courses, popular with kids for decades (these courses
have been open since the 1950's). Picnic tables are available, so bring
your lunch. Summers only. |

Incline Village Recreation Center (Incline Village) If Lake Tahoe is too chilly for swimming, try the indoor swimming
pool open all year, plus a sauna, fitness center, basketball and volleyball
courts. |
