East Cornwall

tintagel castle
Tintagel Castle – Tintagel Castle, the very crumbling remains of a 13th century castle built by Earl Richard of Cornwall, sits on a rocky promontory high above the sea. According to legend, this is where King Arthur was born. The setting is so dramatic, it's easy to imagine Merlin carrying away baby Arthur, the wind howling above the cliffs…
Bodmin Moor – Stop to take a walk about into Bodmin Moor, fine wide open countryside. Climb up the high spots at Brown Willy and Rough Tor. The windswept landscape conjures up stories of the Beast of Bodmin Moor (a large fanged big cat) that is right up there with the Loch Ness and Big Foot.
Trethevy Quoit (near St Cleer) – Check out "The Giant's House," five standing stones supporting a tilted capstone. This dolmen was a Neolithic burial chamber 3500 years ago. The rocks look like something a kid might stack up, except these stones are immense!
Dozmary Pool – Look deep into Dozmary Pool where is it believed that the dying King Arthur returned his sword Excalibur to the lake.
