Bethlehem is a green farm
center, but besides being a farm
market town, the people of Bethlehem also make and sell handicrafts to the
tourist trade. It's a great place to shop for crafts made from olive wood
or embroidery as well as religious work. Under the Roman occupation Bethlehem
was sacred to the god Adonis but the oldest religious building is the 4th
century Church of the Nativity. Bethlehem, like most of Israel, has had
many, many cultural influences on its history, and the remnants are found
everywhere. |
