  Hiroshima – When the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, it leveled an entire city. One wreck of a building near the epicenter is now the Atom Bomb Dome, a moving testament to that moment of destruction.
origami cranes
  In the Peace Memorial Park (Heiwa Kinen Koen) is a monument to Sadako, a 12 year old girl who died of leukemia as a result of the atom bomb. Sadako started to fold a 1000 origami cranes before she died; her classmates finished the rest. The statue to Sadako in the Peace Park is draped with millions of origami paper cranes sent by school children from all over the world. This monument is sure to leave a lasting impression.
