Pura Ulun Danau (Lake Bratan) The water temple,
Pura Ulun Danau, at Lake Bratan is a jewel. If you happen to be up for the
sunrise, it's just magical the meru tower, an island unto
itself, surrounded by mists floating up from the lake. After you've looked
at the temple, take a boat ride on the lake or pedal boats are available
for rent. |

Penelokan Take a day trip to Penelokan for a panoramic
view of Mt. Batur and the lake below. Mt. Batur originally blew its top,
and a large lake, Lake Batur, formed in the caldera. The water that collects
in this lake flows underground, and comes out in springs in South Bali.
It's cold in the highlands, so bring a sweater or windbreaker. |

Bali Barat National Park The open
grasslands and mangrove swamps in Bali Barat National Park are very different
from the densely cultivated ricefields of South Bali. The park was originally
set up to protect the endangered Bali starling from encroaching human habitation.

to see the birds up close. |
