Railtown 1897 State Park Ride on a steam train from the Sierra Railway, 45
minute ride through oak trees and grassy hillsides, past a defunct gold
mine, through a narrow cut, where a bandit could jump onto the top of the
train. Listen to the steam whistle blow and the clanging of the train bell,
and feel the slow rocking of the train on the tracks. |

On the roundhouse tour you can find out how a steam
train works, and see the workshops where they keep these old trains in working
order. Fascinating for the mechanically-minded, but the tour is 50 min. and little kids may get antsy. |
