San Clemente

    San Clemente Pier & beach
The easiest way to get to the long sandy beach (two miles long) is at the municipal pier. Take Avenida del Mar (which becomes Avenida Victoria) toward the beach; there's car parking (with long term parking meters) and beach access. At the beach are fire pits and barbeques, and a grassy area with picnic tables next to the car park.
The beach is perfect for body surfing, boogie boarding and skim boarding. Also, walk north of the pier along the walkway (San Clemente Pedestrian Beach Trail) –among the rocks look for starfish at low tide. At Linda Lane city park is a small playground for little kids (swings) and a covered lunch area.
San Clemente Pier – The pier has fishing (watch the locals reeling in the fish) and a fish restaurant with children's menu. On July 4th, watch the fireworks display off the pier.
Learn to surf – Kids will have fun learning how to surf from the experts (surfing is also a good experience in ocean safety). Lessons for kids include boards and wetsuits.

San Clemente State Beach – San Clemente State Beach has day-use and camping. For day-use, there's metered parking, shaded picnic areas, snack bar and showers, and a mile long sand beach. Camp on the bluffs above the beach the campground has hot showers, flush toilets, water, ranger programs and hikes. In the visitor center, check out the exhibits of local marine life, birds and animals.

Tip: The train tracks for Amtrak run right along the beach here. It's fun to watch the train go by. Also, when going to the beach, use the designated beach access; don't run across the tracks.
