Glacier Point

Family at Glacier Point
Glacier Point – The view couldn't be more spectacular from Glacier Point, a majestic vista of Half Dome, Vernal and Nevada Falls, and sweeping panorama of high mountains in the distance. It's an easy walk on a paved path to the overlook, okay for little kids and strollers. On a hot day, stop at the concession stand for an ice cream or cold drinks.
In the evening, watch the moon rise over Half Dome, bring a telescope for the kids to stargaze on their own, or attend the 1 "Stars Over Yosemite" program in the amphitheater (schedule is listed in the Yosemite Guide under Glacier Point).
Hike up Sentinel Dome – At the top of Sentinel Dome, 8,122 ft high, kids will have the second highest viewpoint of Yosemite Valley below and 360 degree views of spectacular rock formations, waterfalls and mountain ranges. (Only Half Dome is a higher viewpoint, but Sentinel Dome is much more accessible for kids.)
The mountains have fun names, such as Basket Dome, Cathedral Rocks, Arrowhead Spire, Eagle Tower. Our favorite name is Clouds Rest, the large peak behind Half Dome. A large silver disc on the summit labels the mountains, making is easy to see which is which.
From the parking lot, follow the trail around to the eastern side of the dome. From there, climb up the gentle rock slope to the top. The hike is 2.4 miles round trip.
Badger Pass Ski and Snowboard Area – In winter this is a great family ski area with gentle slopes for beginners. The ski school has lessons for kids, including kids 4-6, as well as snowboard lessons. Snow tubing is for everyone in the family. You can rent all the equipment you need, lift tickets are very reasonable, and the Yosemite scenery is magical.
