Lake promenade – From the "little harbor," walk either direction along the lakeside promenade, it's especially nice late in the day, when the sounds of birds are everywhere. The water in the lake is so clear, you can see fish swimming. Along the promenade are the ferry landings, a large playground, and Lido beach area. |

Ferry landing – Take the ferry for rides around the lower lake to Sirmione and back, longer rides to Garda, as well as to upper Lake Garda. Tip: There are slower and faster ferries, including car ferries; the speedy hydrofoils are an additional charge. |

Playground and fun fair – Just south of the ferry landing is a lovely playground next to the lake, with climbing structures and swings, mini-trampolines, and fun fair with tiny electric train, bumper cars and carousel. There are shade trees and benches where parents can relax while little ones play. |

Lido – The Lido is good for kids who can swim off the dock, but little kids can easily wade in the shallows and cool off on a hot day. The Lido has a snack bar, beach chairs, and powerboats or pedal boats for rent. |

Tip: The beaches along Lake Garda are not sand beaches – they're covered with smooth white pebbles. Stores in Desezano are stocked with beach toys, beach balls and flip-flops. |

Desenzano Castle (Castello Desenzano) – Not as spectacular as the castle at Sirmione, the Desenzano castle still has the same atmosphere of "seriously built to repel invaders." Constructed in the Middle Ages, on the site of an old Roman fort high on the hill, the castle was a fortified residence. Kids can walk on the crenellated ramparts, and climb up the castle keep, with panoramic views over the lake. Closed Monday. |
