Mark Twain came to Nevada Territory in 1862, when he was twenty six years old, and lived in Carson City and Virginia City during the bonanza mining boom. He worked as a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise newspaper, and his writings about the colorful characters of this time and place (Roughing It) are a great read. When kids visit Virginia City, the Washoe wind still blows hard enough to blow the hair off people's heads. |
