Discovery Point (Dundee ) The Royal Research
Ship Discovery was built in Dundee for the 1901 expedition of Scott
and Shackleton to Antarctica. This tall masted ship spent two winters locked
in the ice, but now is restored and sitting dockside in Dundee. On board
ship, kids can run around the boiler room, see how the scientists and sailors
lived and worked aboard ship. For more information about the Scott expedition,
check out the Discovery
Point site. |

Barry Mill (near Carnoustie) Stop in at this
19th century water mill, still grinding corn. All the moving mechanical
stuff, elevators, sieves and sack hoists, is fascinating. Bring a picnic
lunch and kick back. |

Birthplace of J.M. Barrie (Kirriemuir) Visit
the house where J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, was born in 1860.
Don't miss the little wash house, which was Barrie's inspiration for the
Wendy house in Never Never Land and his first theater. In Kirriemuir village,
there is a statue of Peter Pan, bigger than the Peter Pan statute
in London. |
