Atomium The Atominum was built in 1958 for the
World Fair in Brussels. Today it's a bit frayed around the edges, but the
Atomium is an interesting glimpse of the "future" 50 years ago.
And the structure itself is like some giant tinker toy or k'nex creation. |
|
|
|
|
|
Inside the Atomium, an elevator takes you up to the top "ball"
for a panorama of Brussels all the red-roofed buildings look like
miniatures. As you descend on escalators, there are exhibits, and don't
miss the movie documenting the construction of the dome guys are
using hand wrenches to tighten nuts. |

Parc d'Osseghem, Parc de Laeken Right next to
the Atomium is a large grassy park, green and cool, with an artificial lake,
benches and plenty of room to run around. Bring sandwiches and have a picnic. |

Tip: Take the metro out to Atomium and Bruparck.
It's an easy ride and Bruparck is right next to the metro, the Atomium is
a little further. |
