Lourdes

Lourdes is a pilgrimage site, famous for its sacred spring and visions of the Virgin by a fourteen year old girl, St. Bernadette.
Grotto of Massabielle – This is the grotto where Bernadette Sourbirous had her visions in 1858; the waters from the spring in the grotto are believed to cure the sick. The grotto isn't large, but there will be lines of pilgrims, waiting to walk around the spring. Kids will need to be quiet in the grotto, and dress appropriately.
Lourdes Wax Museum (Musee de Cire Lourdes) – This waxwork museum is filled with religious figures – St. Bernadette, scenes from the life of Jesus, Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, and more. Open April – October.
Musee Pyreneen – Lourdes is an ancient city, and this museum is housed in an old fortified castle with a very nice castle keep. The museum displays exhibits of traditional life in the Pyrenees – a kitchen, bedroom, farm tools etc. Open year round.
