The Mountain Centre (Visitor's Centre) has a spectacular
view of Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales. Stop in the Brecon
Beacons National Park office in Abergavenny to get more information on walks
and hiking in the park, and family-friendly guided walks and children's events. |

 Pony trekking is available from Neuadd Trekking Centre (near Abergavenny) or Wern Riding
Centre (near Crickhowell). |

Brecon Mountain Railway (near Merthyr Tydfil) – Take an hour steam train ride along a large lake, with glorious views of Pen y Fan in the distance. Near the station is a large playground and picnic tables, and a restaurant. |

Canal boating – The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal
( 'Mon' and 'Brec' Canal) meanders through the National Park, offering a
peaceful view of the landscape. Take a day cruise on a narrow boat on the
canal (locks included, of course) – a relaxing way to spend your day.

White Castle (near Abergavenny) – Moat encircling
the castle, and kids can climb up the tower of the 13th century gatehouse
for a fine view. |

Dan-yr-ogof Showcaves – This is just a spectacular
set of huge caves,with stunning stalagmites and stalactites. There is also
the Dinosaur Park, life size recreations of dinosaurs set outdoors, and
replica of an Iron Age Farm. Next door, visit the Shire Horse
Centre, where you see shire horses, sheep dogs, and other farm animals. |
