Le Mans

Le Mans is famous for its car race, but it's also an ancient city, dating back to Roman times. William the Conquerer also conquered Le Mans and Henry II of England was born here. A hub of the car industry in the early 20th century, Wilbur Wright set records with his flying machines in Le Mans.
Musee de l'Automobile de la Sarthe (Le Mans) – The 24 hour race at Le Mans means fast cars (and trucks and motorcyles). Visit this famous car museum founded more than a 100 years ago to see Ferraris, Porsches, and other winners of the Le Mans race, prototype cars, nostalgia cars such as Hispano-Suiza, Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, a 1958 Cadillac in mint condition. Anyone who loves cars will find this museum fascinating.
Old City (Vieux Mans) – It's fun to run around the old city, on the hill above the Sarthe River. Wander through windy streets dotted with Renaissance style houses. The Cathedral of Saint Julien is a wonderful Gothic special, with soaring columns and gorgeous stained glass windows. Walk along the Sarthe River, where you can see the foundations of the Roman walls which surrounded the town.
