Coos Bay & Around |
Coos Bay - | |||
Boardwalk – Coos Bay is a large deep water port. Walk down the boardwalk where kids can see all sorts of boats in the water, and sea planes taking off and landing. Check out the full size tugboat Koos No. 2 on display.
Farmers Market – In summer, sample the bounty of local fruits and vegetables (we love the cherries, blueberries, blackberries), plus fresh baked goods and jams. May to October, every Wed., located on Central Ave. in downtown Coos Bay.
Charleston – Charleston is a great place to pick up fresh fish for dinner – bright red Chinook salmon and fresh albacore tuna are our favorites. Fisherman's Wharf fish market on D-Dock, check out the big tub of live crabs swimming around.
Simpson Reef Overlook (Cape Arago) – In Cape Arago State Park, Shell Island is home to oodles of California and Steller sea lions, harbor and northern elephant seals. Drive out to the Simpson Reef Overlook, one of the best places on the Oregon coast to see seals and sea lions.
Tip: Read our blog post how to tell difference between seals and sea lions - Seal or Sea Lion?

On a day in August when it was pouring rain, we were happy sit inside in the restaurant. But when the sun is out, lots of picnic tables outdoors, Coos Bay is right there, and piles of oyster shells. |
